Kenneth W. Fitch
Ken Fitch, age 58, passed away very peacefully at home on Thursday night, September 16th, gently held in the arms of his wife and surrounded by his family and close friends. He had battled cancer with great optimism over the past 2 years. Ken was born July 18, 1952 in New Britain, CT to Arthur and Anita Fitch (both deceased). His two brothers, David and Donald, and their families live on the East Coast. Ken lived in Napa with his wife, Kathleen and their son, John, along with his close knit family of in-laws, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Ken loved the great outdoors and all the adventure to be found there. He enjoyed the speed and freedom of weekly motorcycle rides with good friends. And any day was a good day to see a movie with his son!
Music was the defining focus of Ken’s life as early as his teen years and his love for all types of music led him into an amazing professional career.
With a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, he began his specialization in pre-19th century vocal performance styles with post graduate study at The Royal College of Music in London. Ken toured extensively as a soloist throughout the U.S. and Europe with many ensembles dedicated to the stylistic performance of Early Music. He taught at numerous workshops and Artist-in-Residence programs in the U.S. and abroad and performed at many major music festivals in France.
After moving his family to the Bay Area in 1988, he performed for 10 years with Chanticleer, the premier A Cappella ensemble. His career also included performances with other Bay Area ensembles, National Radio & Television in several countries and over 35 CD’s.
When Ken completed his touring career, he started a web development company in Napa. He continued to sing regularly as a soloist, section leader & interim conductor with the St. Stephen’s Church choir in Marin. His passion for sharing the music he loved was unmistakable.
